2024 Fixtures Released

It all begins again here. New friends, old rivals (and hopefully a few less dickhead teams than last year). The Paddington Rabbits 2024 fixtures are out now.

Highlights include the return of our popular party-time Friday Night Fever T20s, gruelling two-day Test matches against the mighty Southwark Park and Islington Lions, a titanic three-game series against Strongroom Music Studios and glamour ties against both Time Team and The Times.

Plus; Whippets, Badgers, Rats and Bastards, mascot racing, massive tunes, big crowds and just general good vibes.

2024. It’s Rabbit time.

As well as Rabbits-wear, loads of cricket bats, balls, accessories and just general stuff can be bought. Everything purchased from the site will help us get more communal kit for the club, so get stuck in!

Earlier this season your Paddington Rabbits were flattered to receive a visit from the good people of Dome - a new magazine putting the focus on progressive voices and key cultural talking points across all levels of sport. We sat down with them to talk social inclusion, prawn sandwiches and (of course) indie rock.

Check out their first issue that includes a great article on Olympic medal-winning weightlifter Emily Campbell as well as a poster of our own Jimmy Raza!

Celebrate the Miracle of Maida with a new bath mat, show your Rabbit pride with a delightful three buns wall tapestry, or marvel once again at his record-breaking 7 for 11 with a commemorative Mr Nicholas fridge magnet or mini skirt. (Pictured is the apron not the skirt).

Plus t-shirts, stickers, bags, some rather experimental looking yoga trousers… tell a friend!

We. Are. Back.

Hi everyone, cricket is back to make everything okay again.

I’m thrilled to say that our great mates at Everyone Active have re-opened the nets at the Rec, and booked in our matches for the 2021 season.

Your Rabbits return to their traditional Thursday night nets from 6pm - 9pm, and have a fully loaded weekend season of games this year. Come on down to give the game a go, or just have a nice afternoon out and say hello. It would be great to see you (in fairness, at this late stage, it will be great to see anyone).

Of course, pandemic means things will still be a bit weird this year. Games and nets are subject to cancellation due to plague, and we will be following all recommended guidelines on safety and social distancing. At present, this means that the changing rooms will be closed, there should be no more than six Rabbits per lane and, there’s no spitting on or licking the balls. To be honest, that always seemed gross (and the changing rooms aren’t great anyway) so it’s no great loss.

Our season starts with a Rabbits inter-squad match on Easter Sunday the 4th of April. We’ve got a lot of games this season, so we’re going to have rotate the squad quite a lot. Come on down on Sunday (from 1130 am) to impress the selectors early doors.

Here’s the revised line up of games for the year. All of this is, of course, subject to massive change.

Cheers!

The Greatest Day in the History of Sport.

tavern1-1-9.jpg

Just a quick note to say how completely brilliant yesterday was. The wonderful Sports Team and Sea Girls visited us at The Paddington Rec for a cracking game of cricket in aid of the Music Venue Trust. There was sport, cake, crowds, the Rabbits media centre, celebrity interviews, high-grade summarising, live commentary, the Benny Hill Music, and, despite constant requests, absolutely no Sweet Caroline. Oh yes, and there was a mascot race.

In 30+ years toiling in the foothills of indie rock nothing (and I mean absolutely nothing) has lifted my spirits and filled me with more pride than the ecstatic chants of "Pad-dy! Pad-dy! Pad-dy!" from a rapt Rec crowd, as a cricket-pad wearing rabbit limped home well-beaten by an off-brand Cookie Monster with a pop star inside.

65 years ago, Sir Roger Bannister prepared for his four-minute mile at The Paddington Recreation Ground. Yesterday a new hero was born. I think Sir Rog would have approved of how his sport had evolved.

If you fancy joining or supporting the Rabbits. Please drop us a line on here, or come and say hi at the Rec. We practice on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons if we haven't got a game. Sometimes Tuesdays too. Everyone's welcome, whatever your age, ability, background or gender, we're the friendly weirdos in lane four, probably arguing about music.

Cheers!

(The Rabbits won btw, but charity and sport were the real winners)
